Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which improves the use efficiency of illuminating light.
SOLUTION: The projector has a light valve 1 like a DMD, a lamp 21, a columnar optical element 23, a projection lens 4 for projecting on-state light L2, a first reflection member 27 provided on a first end face 25 of the columnar optical element 23, a second reflection member 28 provided on a second end face 26, and a light recovery optical system 3. The first reflection member 27 has a light transmission area 27a and a light reflection area 27b turned to the first end face 25. The second reflection member 28 transmits a part of light going to the second end face 26 and changes the going direction of another part of the light to make it go to the first reflection member 27. The light recovery optical system 3 changes the going direction of off-state light L3 to make it go to the light valve 1. The first reflection member 27 reflects light reflected by the second reflection member 28 and reflects a part of light made incident on the second end face 26 of the columnar optical element 23 through the light valve 1 by the light recovery optical system 3, and these reflected light are used as a part of illuminating light L1.
