Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a prolyl endopeptidase inhibitor comprising a peptide derived from rice and/or its derivative as an active ingredient.
SOLUTION: This prolyl endopeptidase-inhibiting peptide is obtained by separating and collecting a peptide Leu-Leu-Ser-Pro-Phe-Trp-Asn-Ile-Asn-Ala and/or pGlu-Leu-Phe-Asn(or Gly)-Pro-Ser(or Asn)-Thr(or Val)-Asn-Pro-Trp-His- Ser(or Asn)-Pro-Arg according to treatment of Sake (Japanese fermented, mildly alcoholic beverage made from rice) or Sake lees with a proteolytic enzyme and then a chromatographic treatment. The peptide has not only excellent inhibiting activities against the prolyl endopeptidase but also high safety due to its origin in a natural product and is useful for preventing and treating dementia.
