Abstract:

To provide a propeller blade having ice-phobic coating which is a passive system capable of improving reliability and maintainability and furthermore reducing both the initial acquirement cost and the maintenance cost during procession.

The propeller blade 1 rotating about a hub assembly has a coating 6 comprising an ice-phobic material disposed thereon at least along a leading edge 7. The coating 6 extends along the blade 1 from a radially inner region to a radially outer region, wherein the radially outer region is disposed between the blade root and the blade tip at a position where rotational forces on the blade 1 are sufficient, in use, to cause removal of ice from the uncoated blade 1.
