NEW MATERIAL: A compound represented by formula I (wherein each of R1 to R5 is H, a halogen, an alkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy, acyloxy, alkylthio group or the like, or optionally, adjacent two groups selected from R1 to R5, together with the C atoms to which the two groups are attached respectively, form a 5- to 7-membered ring; and R6 is H, an alkyl group, COOR7, CONR8R9 (R7 is H, an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl group or the like; and each of R8 and R9 is H or an alkyl group) or the like) and their salts.
EXAMPLE: 4-(3,4-(methylenedioxy)benzoyl)propiolic acid.
USE: A pharmaceutical which has mucosa protective action and/or gastric acid secretion control action and is useful for inhibition and prophylaxis of gastrointestinal tract diseases, particularly gastric ulcer and/or duodenal ulcer.
PREPARATION: Such a compound represented by the formula I is prepared, for example, by allowing a corresponding compound represented by the formula II (R17 is an eliminable group) to react with a compound represented by the formula III (R6" is a R6 group other than H or an alkyl group).
