Abstract:
To provide an external electric drive type propulsion device for a semisubmersible catamaran (swath) having an excellent efficiency and an excellent convenience for repair and replacement.
A semisubmersible catamaran 10 has an upper structure part supported on a pair of floats 12 by post members 16, each of the floats 12 having a propulsion module 18 removably attached to the rear end thereof. The propulsion module 18 has a module main body with a longitudinal water passage therein, a rim drive motor, a line of rotary wings 24, and a cowl member 20 having at its front end an inlet adapted to draw in the boundary layer of water flowing along the floats 12.
