NEW MATERIAL: A compd. represented by formula I (a group represented by formula II is divalent cyclic groups represented by formulae III-VII, R1 is 6- carboxyhexa-2-enyl or a modified group modified by the reduction of a double bond voluntarily accompanied by the substitution of C-atoms at a first position- third position by S or O (i), the conversion of the position of a double bond (ii), the shortening or extension of a carbon chain by 1-2 CH2 (iii) and either one of treatments forming amide or ester of carboxy or a salt derived group (iv), R2 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group substituted by an aliphatic hydrocarbon group and an aromatic group directly or through O or S and V and W are combined to form O of carbonyl or V is H and W is OH).
USE: An intermediate useful for synthesizing prostaglandins having various types of ring systems.
PROCESS: For example, a compd. represented by formula VIII is reacted with a Grignard reagent [R2Mg (halogen)] to obtain secondary alcohol represented by formula ix and this alcohol is reacted with a Jones reagent to obtain the compd. represented by formula I.
