Abstract:

To reproduce an anatomical joint, and at the same time, to enable the easy abduction of an arm or a leg, in the case where there is available no shoulder rotor cover or hip joint stabilizing structure, because the lever arm of forces exerted by the deltoid muscle or the musculus gluteus maximus has increased at the start of the abduction.

A prosthesis for the shoulder or hip joint has an element for composing a humerus or femur with a concave joint surface, and an intermediate composing element having first and second convex joint surfaces. The momentary rotary center of the first convex joint surface for the concave joint surface of the humerus or femur component, and the momentary rotary center of the second convex joint surface for a cavitas glenoidalis or the joint surface of an acetabulum are positioned at both sides of the first convex joint surface.
