Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a temporary protection against corrosion of a metal product and to eliminate the need for cleaning before use by applying a coating of a specific emulsion on at least a part of the metal product and drying to form a film.
CONSTITUTION: The metal product, such as steel sheet, is cleaned by an acid bath or the like to remove scale or the like and is then washed with water. The emulsion prepd. by dispersing 3 to 13 vol.% oil phase in water is sprayed on at least a part of the surface of the metal product and is dried to form the film. The oil phase of the emulsion comprises 75 to 90 vol.% at least one mineral oil, 5 to 10% at least one surface-active agent and 5 to 15% at least one corrosion inhibitor. The dry film is preferably about 300 to 800 mg/m2 coating material. This metal product is protected against corrosion for at least three months. A sheet coated with the corrosion resistant film is usable for coating treatment of type of dip galvanizing, enamel coating or the like without executing pretreatment.
