To provide a protective element capable of securing a capacitance at the time of over current protection, and easily making it melt by the heat from the heat generator.
A protective element 10 comprises: an insulating substrate 11; a heat generator 14 deposited on the insulating substrate 11 and covered with an insulating member 15; electrodes 12(A1), 12(A2) formed on both edges of the insulating substrate 11; a heat generator extraction electrode 16 deposited on the insulating member 15 so as to overlap the heat generator 14; and a soluble conductor 13 in which its both edges are connected to electrodes 12(A1), 12(A2), and its central part is connected to the heat generator extraction electrode 16. The soluble conductor 13 consists of a round-wire like thick part 13a of 1.6 mmφ, for example, and a thin part 13b formed thinner than the thick part 13a so as to have nearly a uniform thickness at a position where a part opposing to the heat generator 14 overlaps the heat generator. The thickness of the thin part 13b is half the thickness of the thick part 13a, for example.
