Abstract:

A system of protecting thyristors against excess voltage has the SC component made up of at least four zones (1-4) of alternately opposite conduction type. It is inserted between one main electrode of the component to be protected, esp. anode, and its control electrode. Its first and fourth zones (emitters) carry electrodes (K, A), and the second zone, base (2) has an area (5) with increased dope concentration, carrying a third electrode (G). A resistive connection (9) is made between first electrode (K) of the first emitter (1) and the third electrode (G).
