To provide a method for screening an active molecule for treating infection caused by a gram-positive coccus especially caused by enterococcus and especially for screening antibiotics.

The protein Van B concerning to glycopeptide resistance of gram-positive bacteria, inducible by vancomycin and non-inducible by teicoplanin, especially to vancomycin resistance is provided, and also, the application of a nucleotide fragment of a gene van B for detecting glycopeptide resistance is provided.
