Abstract:

To provide a new gene associated with production of protocatechuic acid from 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, a new gene associated with production of protocatechuate 2,3-ring cleavage metabolite from 4-hydroxybenzoic acid or protocatechuic acid, a method for producing protocatechuic acid from 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and a method for producing a protocatechuate 2,3-ring cleavage metabolite from 4-hydroxybenzoic acid or protocatechuic acid.

The gene encodes a protein composed of a specific amino acid sequence. The protein is encoded by the gene. The recombinant vector comprises the gene. The transformant comprises the recombinant vector. The methods for producing protocatechuic acid and a protocatechuate 2,3-ring cleavage metabolite are provided.
