Title:
PROXIMITY SENSING ON MOBILE ROBOTS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2016076248
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proximity sensor for a mobile robot.SOLUTION: A proximity sensor includes first and second constituent elements disposed on a sensor body so as to be adjacent to each other. The first constituent element is one of an emitter 522 and a receiver 524 whereas the second constituent element is the other one of the emitter and the receiver. A third constituent element is disposed adjacent to the second sensor opposite the first sensor. The third constituent element is an emitter if the first sensor is the emitter, and is a receiver if the first sensor is the receiver. Each constituent element has a field of view. A first field of view intersects a second field of view to define a first volume and the first volume detects a floor surface within a first threshold distance. The second field of view intersects a third field of view to define a second volume and the second volume detects a floor surface within a second threshold distance.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8D
