To provide a pulley direct connection and variable displacement swash plate type compressor which will not produce any trouble such as seizure on thrust bearings arranged opposite to each other at the other end of a shaft when the atmospheric temperature is low.
A pulley direct connection and variable displacement swash plate type compressor 1 is structured so that it includes a housing 2 with a cylindrical part 21a, a shaft which is installed rotatably in the housing 2 and of which one end part is projected via the cylindrical part 21a, a pulley 4 which is attached rotatably at the cylindrical part 21a so that it is positioned coaxially with the shaft 3, and a torque limiting mechanism 5 which connects the pulley 4 to the shaft 3 and limits a rotating torque transmitted from the pulley 4 to the shaft 3. In this case, the torque limiting mechanism 5 is so designed that the shaft 3 is energized in the direction that one end part of the shaft 3 is projected from the cylindrical part 21a.
