PURPOSE: To obtain a pulse measuring apparatus by which the frequency or the cycle of a pulse signal changing its frequency with the passage of time is measured with good accuracy over a wide frequency range.

CONSTITUTION: Frequency information 166 on a pulse signal 105 is obtained by counters 110, 112, a compare register 120 and a register 131, and cycle information 164 is obtained by a counter 111 and a register 130. A judgment circuit 140 judges whether the frequency of the pulse signal is high or low. Based on this judgment, a selection circuit 150 supplies one out of the frequency information and the cycle information to a CPU 103. The CPU performs an operation on the basis of the information so as to respond to an interrupt signal 170 or 180 corresponding to the supplied information, and it measures the pulse signal. Thereby, the pulse signal is measured on the basis of the cycle information when the frequency of the pulse signal is low and on the basis of the frequency information when the frequency is high. As a result, the pulse signal can be measured with good accuracy over a wide frequency range.
