Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a nematocidal composition far large in the nematocidal activity in comparison with conventional nematocides, greatly low in phytotoxicity and in acute toxicity to warm-blooded animals, and thereby capable of effectively preventing nematodes, especially plant-injuring nematodes.
CONSTITUTION: This nematocidal composition contains a partially new compound of formula I (R is an aliphatic or alicyclic saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group which may be halogenated and preferably has four or less carbon atoms; RO is placed at one of the positions of the benzene ring) (the compound wherein the 4- or 7-methoxy group is halogenated is new), preferably a compound of formula I' (R' is the above-described 1-3C hydrocarbon group), especially 7- methoxybenzimidazole, as an active ingredient, in addition to an inactive carrier. The compound of formula I can be produced from a compound of formula II (Hal is a halogen) through a compound of formula III (R8 is a 1-30C alkyl, a 3-7C cycloalkyl, benzyl).
