To provide a pulse rate measuring method which has robustness to a body movement and can follow a pulse change and a blood oxygen saturation measuring method.
The pulse rate measuring method includes: a time width measuring process for measuring a time width between peaks or bottoms of a wave form of a light receiving signal by a light receiving element which receives light passing thorough or reflected on a biological tissue to calculate a pulse estimated value in accordance with the time width; a spectral distribution calculating process for calculating a spectral distribution by analyzing a frequency of the light receiving signal to calculate the pulse estimated value in accordance with the spectral distribution; and a pulse rate calculating process for calculating a pulse rate in accordance with a weighted mean of the pulse estimated value of present time and the pulse estimated value up to previous time respectively in the time width measuring process and the spectral distribution calculating process. The time width measuring process, the spectral distribution calculating process and the pulse rate calculating process are carried out one after another to obtain the pulse estimated value and the pulse rate in time series.
