To provide a highly reliable pump apparatus having a simple apparatus constitution and capable of reliably executing the start and the continuous operation of a pump without stopping a prime mover to a large fluctuation of the water suction level, and an operation control device of the pump apparatus.
The pump apparatus includes a pump (P), a prime mover (24) for driving the pump, and a coupling/uncoupling means (23) for directly or indirectly coupling/uncoupling a rotary shaft of the prime mover with/from a rotary shaft of the pump. The coupling/uncoupling means is capable of arbitrarily adjusting the coupling time, and a control means starts the operation of the prime mover (24) while the coupling/uncoupling means (23) is coupled/uncoupled at the suction level below a pump impeller (17). The control means couples the coupling/uncoupling means (23) at the arbitrarily adjusted coupling time, and starts the operation of the pump when the water suction level is elevated, and reaches the pump operation starting level above the pump impeller.
