The punch press is equipped with the work holder 15 feedable on a table 14 to a working position P while holding a work W and a punch mechanism 12 performing working to the work W in the working position P. On the punch press, a work holder interference detecting means 50 detecting that the punch mechanism 12 and the work holder 15 have interfered and a control means 51 corresponding to a detected result, which controls the punch mechanism 12 according to the detected result of this means, are provided. The interference detecting means 50 is effective only when the work holder 15 has entered a safety zone 53 around the working position P.
