PURPOSE: To hold slugs pushed into a die in the die by frictional force, and to enable a continuous punch pressing work without moving upward the slug by forming a tapered part opened upward a little in the upper part of the inside surface of the die.

CONSTITUTION: When a metallic plate 3 is punched by a die 1 and a punch 2, on the lower face of the metallic plate 3, the upper end of a tapered part 9 in the die 1 becomes a cutting edge and a cutting face 5 is formed, and also, a rupture surface 6 is formed. Dimensions of the cutting face 5 of slug 4 in this punching process coincide with the inner dimensions of the upper end of the tapered part 9, that is, (a)+2e, and its dimensions become small by contraction caused by the distortion recovery. On the other hand, when punching is finished, the slug 4 is allowed to go into a land part 7 of the die 1 by the punch 2, and since the inner dimensions (a) of the land part 7 are smaller than the inner dimensions (a)+2e of the upper end of the tapered part 9, friction to the inside surface of the die 1 is not lost even by the contraction of the slug 4, and the slug 4 is held in the land part 7.
