PURPOSE: Acrylic acid resulting from gas-phase catalytic oxidation of propylene is treated with a hydrazine-adsorbing, molecular sieve to remove aldehydes in the acrylic acid effectively, whereby high-purity acrylic acid is obtained.
CONSTITUTION: Acrylic acid resulting from gas-phase catalytic oxidation of propylene and/or acrolein is treated by passing it through the column filled with molecular sieve adsorbing a hydrazing such as phenylhydrazine or an amine such as aniline at 15W80°C and distilled to remove a tract amount of aldehydes such as acrolein or furfural, thus giving high-purity acrylic acid.
EFFECT: In spite of very simple treatment operation, high-purity acrylic acid readily applicable to the production of polymers is readily obtained.
