Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain ethisterone a raw material for hormones, medicines, e.g. spironolactone, with ease in a high recovery, by washing crude ethisterone with a specific mixed solvent in a specific proportion.
CONSTITUTION: Crude ethisterone (E) is washed with tetrahydrofuran (moisture content: 25W85wt%) and purified. The crude E is obtained by ethynylation and post-treatment of androst-4-ene-3,17-dione (4AD), which will not be easily purified, and is colored light orange to brown. Medicines, e.g. Danazol, a remedy for endometriosis, or spironolactone having a hypotensive and diuretic actions can be obtained from E.
