To purify a fatty acid for soap useful as a soap raw material having good hue, especially, a white-based soap raw material by subjecting a fatty acid for soap to purification treatment so as to become a specific ultraviolet absorbing value.
A fatty acid for soap is subjected to purification treatment by a method such as rectification so that ultraviolet absorbing value at 260-275nm, preferably at 268nm becomes ≤30. As rectification conditions, the fatty acid is preferably distilled out at boiling point of stearic acid or below under vacuum in order to suppress heat deterioration. The fatty acid for soap is preferably selected from coconut oil, palm oil, palm stearin or palm olein obtained by fractionating palm oil or palm nuclear oil, etc. The fatty acid for soap obtained by the purification method keeps good hue even when heating or long-term storage is carried out.
