Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate primary crystal Al particles from molten Al and to recover high purity Al in high yield by pressurizing the molten Al in a container having specific structure, after cooling Al melt containing impurities to specified temperature and depositing the high purity primary crystal Al.
SOLUTION: The melt 2 of Al alloy scrap containing impurities such as Fe, Si or the like is charged into a container 1 having the bottom through hole 6 filled with a bar 7 and is cooled while measuring temperature of the melt 2 with a thermocouple 8. When the temperature of the melt 2 becomes intermediate temperature between liquidus and solidus, extremely high purity Al primary crystal particles 3 are deposited and remained melt 2 becomes the Al melt concentrated with the impurities such as Fe and Si. At this point of time, the bar 7 is pulled out and a vertical hole 9 opened to the bottom through hole 6 is formed and simultaneously a squeezing plate 4 is at once descended from upper part and thereby, the Al primary crystal particles 3 are compacted on the bottom part of the container 1 and Al melt 2a concentrated with Fe and Si is made flow down into vessel 10 for recovering through the vertical hole 9 and the through hole 6, and after that, massive bodies 3a of solidified high purity Al primary crystal particles are taken out.
