Abstract:
To provide a method for performing purification of allylamine medicinal, terbinafine in a free base form or in an acid addition salt form, from a nonmetal contaminant.
Crude terbinafine base of formula (I) is distilled, preferably by short path distillation, for example, at a temperature above 100°C and reduced pressure, for example, 0.2 mbar (method A), if desired, salt formation of the product obtained under simultaneous precipitation with a pure trans isomer is also obtained (method B), and pure terbinafine in a free base form or in an acid addition salt form is recovered.
