Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To purify the subject compound useful as a raw material, etc., for a co-catalyst, etc., of a metallocene catalyst efficiently and simply by treating tetrakis(fluorinated aryl)borate/magnesium halide with an alkali (alkaline earth) metal salt of a carboxylic acid.
SOLUTION: This method for effectively purifying tetrakis(fluorinated aryl) borate/magnesium halide comprises treating the tetrakis(fluorinated aryl)borate/ magnesium halide expressed by formula I [R1 to R10 are each H, F, a hydrocarbon or an alkoxy provided that among the R1 to R5, at least one is F and among the R6 to R10 at least one is F; X is Cl, Br or I; (n) is 2, 3] with an alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid and/or an alkaline earth metal salt of the carboxylic acid. Further, by reacting the above compound with a compound generating a monovalent cation, a co-catalyst for a metallocene catalyst (a polymerization catalyst) and a compound useful as a catalyst for photopolymerization of a silicone expressed by formula II (Z+ is a monovalent cationic group) are efficiently obtained at a low cost.
