A purification accelerating material 1 wherein a chelate agent is mixed with lumps of a water-soluble resin is brought into contact with water. By this constitution, the lumps of the water-soluble resin are gradually dissolved and the chelate agent mixed with the lumps of the water-soluble resin is gradually discharged to remove heavy metal ions contained in water over a long period of time.
