Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deterioration determining device of an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine having high precision and capable of properly extracting a rectangular waveform component being a feature of fresh catalyst.
SOLUTION: This purifying device deterioration determining device for the internal combustion engine has the exhaust emission control device provided in an exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine, a downstream side exhaust gas sensor provided in an exhaust passage on the downstream side of the purifying device and generating output corresponding to component of exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine, an air-fuel ratio control means for controlling air-fuel ratio of the internal combustion engine to a predetermined value based on output of the downstream side exhaust gas sensor, a rectangular waveform component extraction means for extracting rectangular waveform component by applying nonlinear filtering from output of the downstream side exhaust gas sensor in an operation condition during control of air-fuel ratio, a noise component extraction means for extracting noise component indicating degree of catalyst deterioration by subtracting rectangular waveform component from sensor output, and a purifying device deterioration determining means for determining deterioration of the purifying device.
