Abstract:

PURPOSE: To purify a coenzyme Q, by treating an extract of the coenzyme Q with a lower alcohol or a hydrous lower alcohol with a porous adsorbent consisting of a copolymer made from styrene and divinylbenzene essentially, and having a network structure.

CONSTITUTION: An extract of a coenzyme Q expressed by the formula (n is an integer 1W12) with a lower alcohol, e.g. methanol or ethanol, or a hydrous lower alcohol is treated with a porous adsorbent, consisting of a copolymer made from styrene and divinylbenzene essentially, and having a network structure and an average pore diameter of 300W1,000 to adsorb the coenzyme Q on the adsorbent. The adsorbed coenzyme Q is then eluted with a solvent having a small polarity, e.g. petroleum ether or hexane.
