To provide a method for removing nitrogen oxide (NOX), particle material (PM), hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monooxide (CO) in lean combustion exhaust gas such as a diesel engine simultaneously.
A catalyst reactor combined with a NOx reduction catalyst and an oxygen catalyst is installed at the midway of a diesel engine exhaust pipe so that NOx, PM, HC and CO in the exhaust gas are removed. In this case, NOx is removed by being decomposed into nitrogen and oxygen by contacting a with NOx reduction catalyst by adding a part of the NOx into the exhaust gas, and part of the PM is also decomposed at the same time. PM, HC and CO are burned and removed with the oxidation catalyst. Especially, the diesel engine equipped with electronic control high pressure fuel-injection equipment is preferable, and more preferably, the reactor is combined with an EGR.
