Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:The pyrazinylmethane derivative of formula I [R is lower alkanoyl or sulfo (-SO3H)] and its salt.
EXAMPLE: Bis(4-acetoxyphenyl)-(2-pyrazinyl)methane.
USE: It has excellent cathartic action and is useful as a remedy for various constipations, a post-operative evacuation assistant and an evacuation assistant after the administration of a contrasting agent (barium sulfate). It can be used as a peroral drug or suppository.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a phenol derivative of formula II with a reactive derivative of a carboxylic acid derivative of formula III (R1 is lower alkyl). The reaction temperature is preferably 0W100°C.
