PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound useful for the prevention and treatment of autoimmune diseases, hematopoietic injury by cancer, dyshematopoietic anemia and various other anemic diseases.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [X is N or CH; Y is single bond, O, S, NH, etc.; A1 and A2 are alkylene; Z is cyano or (alkyl-substituted) 5- tetrazolyl; R1, R2, R3 and R3' are H, halogen, alkyl, etc.; R4 and R5 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, etc.], e.g. 3-[4-(3-dimethylaminopropoxy)phenyl]-1H- pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine-1-acetonitrile. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a compound of formula II with a compound of the formula Q-A2-Z1 (Q is halogen, methanesulfonyloxy, etc.; Z1 is 5-tetrazolyl) in a solvent (e.g. benzene) at 0-250°C. It has various actions such as promotion of the phagocytic activity of leukocyte, promotion of the phagocytic activity of macrophage, restoration of the leukocyte count, activation of the resistance to infection, antitumor action and immunocompetence improving action.
