Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a new pyrene compound useful as an organic photoconductive material for electrophotography and a fluorescent brightener, especially as an organic photoconductive material for electrophotography.
CONSTITUTION: The pyrene compound of formula I (R1 is H, substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy or substituted or unsubstituted phenyl; X is direct bond, CH2, CH2CH2, CH=CH, O or S), e.g. the pyrene compound of formula II. The pyrene compound of formula I can be produced by reacting an aldehyde compound of formula III with a phosphonium salt of formula IV (R2 is lower alkyl or phenyl; Y is halogen) or by reacting the aldehyde compound of formula III with a dialkyl phosphite compound of formula V (R3 is lower alkyl). The pyrene compound of formula I fully satisfies the principal requirements as a photo-sensitive material in the case of using the compound as an organic photo-conductive material for electrophotography. A flexible photo-sensitive material, etc., can be produced by the use of the compound.
