PURPOSE: To obtain the new compound consisting of a pyridine derivative of a specific structure, having an antiulcer action, a gastrointestinal cell-protecting action, a gastric-acid secretion-suppressing action and an antibacterial action against Helicobacter pylori and useful as pharmaceuticals.
CONSTITUTION: This is a new pyridine compound (salt) expressed by formula I {R1 and R2 are H, halogen or alkyl; ring A is (substituted) heterocycle which may be condensed; X is alkylene; (n)=1, 2 or 3; B is O or S(O)p [(p)=0, 1 or 2]; D is a single bond or alkylene; E is alkoxyalkyl, (substituted) amino or a group of formula II [R5 is II, alkyl, acyl, carboxyalkyl or phenylalkyl; Y is methylene, O or S; (l) and (m) are 0 or an integer of 1 to 3]}, e.g. 3- methyl-4-(2-morpholinoethylthio)-2-(2-morpholinoethyl)thiomethylpyridine fumaric acid salt. This compound is obtained by reacting a thiol of formula III with a pyridine derivative of formula IV (Z is a reactive group).
