Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R is 3-20C alkyl, 3-20C alkoxy, 3-20C alkoxyalkyl or 3-20C alkoxyalkyloxy; p is 1-16).
EXAMPLE: 5-Decyloxy-2-[4-(3-butenyl)phenyl]pyrimidine.
USE: A component for ferroelectric liquid crystal material, providing a liquid crystal compound having a smectic C phase.
PREPARATION: A halogenated phenylpyrimidine derivative shown by formula II (X1 is Cl, Br or I) is reacted with a Grignard reagent shown by formula III (X2 is Cl, Br or I) in the presence of a nickel catalyst in a solvent such as ethyl ether at -100 to 80°C to give a compound shown by formula I. The amount of the Grigonard reagent used is ≥1 equivalent based on the compound shown by formula I and that of the catalyst is 0.01-50 mol %.
