Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound controlling annual or perennial weeds emerging in paddy fields and upland fields, having excellent herbicidal effects and safety.

CONSTITUTION: A compound shown by formula I (A is alkenyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl which may contain carboxylic acid derivative; R5 and R6 are alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, haloalkoxy or alkylamino; X is O or S; Z is N or methine) such as ethyl 2-(4,6-dimethoxy-pyrimidin-2-ylthio)-cinnamate. The compound shown by formula I is obtained by reacting a compound shown by formula II (R is H, OH, lower alkoxy, etc.; D and E are H, lower alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, phenethyl, etc.) with a compound shown by formula III (Y is halogen, alkylsulfonyl, etc.) in the presence of a base (e.g. potassium carbonate) in a solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide at -30°C to the boiling point of the solvent.
