To provide a pyrromethene compound which can be formed into a film without being decomposed at vacuum deposition, has high light emitting efficiency, is excellent in color purity and can prolong the service life of a light emitting element, and to provide the light emitting element using the compound.
This pyrromethene compound has a decomposition temperature higher than its sublimation temperature, and is represented by formula (1) (wherein R1 to R4 may be the same or different and are each selected from H, an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl, alkynyl, hydroxy, mercapto, alkoxy, alkylthio, aryl ether, aryl thioether, aryl, heterocyclic, halogen, haloalkane, haloalkene, haloalkyne, cyano, aldehyde, carbonyl, carboxyl, ester, carbamoyl, amino, nitro, silyl, siloxanyl, and condensed and alicyclic rings each formed between adjacent substituents; and Ar1 to Ar5 are each an aryl group).
