Abstract:

To provide a quality-improving agent that has high safety, is not picked up by a metal detector, has excellent oxygen inhalation ability, high oxygen absorption rate as well as antimicrobial properties due to the photocatalytic action and freshness retention, thus is suitably useful for preservation of foods and articles in a wide variety of fields.

The quality-improving agent contains a lower-order oxidized titanium that is treated with a basic compound or a lower-order oxidized titanium complex containing sulfate groups or a nickel species. The lower-order oxidized titanium retains the original crystal structure of titanium dioxide and is represented by general formula: TiO2-x(wherein x is a real number of 0.1-0.5) or preferably has the crystal structure of anatase. In addition, a lower-order oxidized titanium complex including sulfate radicals and/or nickel species is preferred.
