To provide: a quench position determination device which do not require long-time operation such as learning, and can specify possibility of a sound source position calculation result (a quench start position determination result); a superconducting coil used for the same; and a quench position determination method.
Acoustic wave detectors 1, 2, 3 detect an acoustic wave emitted just before quench occurrence of the superconducting coil 20. A position calculation part 38 calculates a sound source position of the acoustic wave based on an arrival time difference of the acoustic waves detected by the acoustic wave detectors. A sound velocity calculation part 39 calculates a propagation velocity (a sound velocity) of the acoustic wave from the calculated sound source position and installation positions of the respective detectors. A sound velocity determination part 40 determines that when the sound velocity calculated by the sound velocity calculation part is within an allowable range stored in an allowable range storage part 46, a quench position determination result is significant, and when the calculated sound velocity is out of the stored allowable range, the quench position determination result is not significant.
