Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a new quinone derivative useful for preventing and treating asthma and hepatic diseases, having two pharmaceutically inhibitory actions on leucotriene production and thromboxane synthesis.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula is group of formula II or formula III (R1 to R4 are H, OH, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, alkoxyalkoxy, cycloalkoxyalkoxy, thiol or thioalkyl with the proviso that a case where R2 and R3 are lower alkyl at the same time is omitted; X and Y are OH or protected OH); R1 is heteroaryl; B is carboxyl or protected carboxyl)] or its salt such as (E)-3-(2-methoxy-5,6-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinon-3-yl)-2-5--(3-pyridyl) pentyl-2-propenoic acid. A compound of formula I wherein A is group of formula III and B is protected carboxyl is obtained by subjecting an aldehyde derivative of formula IV with a phosphate of formula V to Wittig reaction in the presence of a base.
