Abstract:
To provide a rack and pinion steering unit employing configuration enabling a problem in wear of the boot thereof to be solved and furthermore enabling the assembly work efficiency to be improved and the cost to be reduced.SOLUTION: The rack and pinion steering unit comprises: a ball joint 3 which comprises a male joint part 40 having a ball 33 at its distal end and is to be connected to an end of a rack 88b; and a female joint part 41 which comprises a socket 31 for slidably holding the ball and is to be connected to an end of a tie rod 89. A ball joint boot 5 has one-end connection part 51 connected to an outer periphery of a housing 10 and the other-end connection part 53 connected to outer periphery of the socket of the ball joint. The female joint part includes a connecting part 401 to be connected to an end of the rack and a flange part 403 used as a member for positioning and also as a stopper.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
