Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a radar apparatus that can detect instantaneously a failure when the failure which cannot obtain a beat signal is generated irrespective of whether an object exists or not on radar transmission-reception waves, and obtain further a failure-detecting method.
SOLUTION: In the radar apparatus having a transmitting-receiving antenna 4 which is excited in a set band, an oscillator is oscillated at a frequency which is excited in a measurement, and at a frequency which is not excited. Thereby, at the nonexciting frequency, reflection is generated due to the impedance mismatching of the antenna, and a DC component is generated from a mixer 5. As a result, when the radar apparatus is normal in the diagnosis of a failure, the output of the mixer becomes a state that the DC component is increased. When a failure that the output is cut off in, e.g. a transmission system, the DC component is reduced, and the failure can be detected by comparing the DC component with a set threshold value.
