PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation detector in which dielectric breakdown is prevented, and which is consequently prevented from causing a line noise and malfunctioning.SOLUTION: In an FPD (flat panel type X-ray detector) 1, a light-shielding member 61 is provided on a front surface of a light emitting surface 3a of a light irradiation mechanism 3, and shields a light irradiated from the light irradiation mechanism 3 by covering an outside area RB of a pixel area RA composed of a plurality of pixel electrodes 6 out of a semiconductor layer 4. Thereby, the light-shielding member 61 can shield the light spread and irradiated from the light emitting surface 3a of the light irradiation mechanism 3 in front of the light emitting surface 3a. For this reason, an electric charge generated by the incidence of the light irradiated from the light irradiation mechanism 3 on the outside of the pixel area RB of a semiconductor layer 4 can be suppressed. Consequently, the dielectric breakdown of a protection layer such as a TFT of a read-out circuit 7 due to the accumulation of electric charges generated in the outside of the pixel area RB of the semiconductor layer 4 can be prevented, and the generation of line noises and the failure of the FPD 1 can be prevented.
