Title:
RADIATION SHIELD MATERIAL USING DIMMING GLASS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0755995
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To form a light and effective radiation shield material by impressing voltage to electron dimmer element layer pinched between two glasses and two transparent electrode layers for coloring and decoloring.

CONSTITUTION: Radiation shield spectacles lenses are constituted of electron dimming element layer 3 having main component of tangusten oxide pinched with outer two glass layers 1, 5 and inner two transparent electrode layers 2, 4. When voltage is impressed to the electrode layer 2 to send current to the element layer 3, water in the element layer 3 ionizes and hydrogen ion is produced, which becomes hydrogen component when combined with electron. Tangusten oxide combines with the hydrogen to change to a blue material called tangusten bronze. If the voltage is impressed until it becomes desired density, the light transmittance changes between 21 to 75% according to the electric charge elapssed time. For decoloring, current can be sent from the opposit side (electrode layer 4). This lens can shield not only visible light and ultraviolet but also radiation.
