To provide a radio communication apparatus and a detecting method for malfunction of a power amplifier circuit wherein malfunction of a power amplifier circuit can be detected with accuracy.
A control circuit 5 detects transmission and reception in radio communication of a radio circuit 3, and acquires battery voltage, or the output voltage of a battery 1, from a battery voltage measuring circuit 4 with respect to the transmission and the reception. A storage unit 6 stores the measured battery voltage. The control circuit 5 computes the difference in battery voltage between transmission and reception. When a difference equal to or greater than a predetermined value, the control circuit determines that the power amplifier circuit 33 in a transmitter circuit 31 is anomalous. When an anomaly in the power amplifier circuit 33 is detected, a display unit 7 displays that. The control circuit 5 detects the lighting state of the back light of the display unit 7, corrects the measured battery voltage, and uses the corrected measured value to detect any anomaly in the power amplifier circuit 33.
