A radio communication apparatus which utilizes a CSMA/CS system to conduct radio communication with another radio communication apparatus, comprises a setting means 13 for setting a waiting time when it is decided that a desired channel is used within a fixed time, and a transmission means for transmitting data, after the lapse of the waiting time. The setting means 13 comprises a selection means 134 for selecting the number of time slots at random, the waiting time being composed of a plurality of time slots; and a time width setting means 134 for setting a time width of at least one or more time slots to a sum of a first time required for transmitting a transmission signal, a second time from the completion of transmission signal reception in the other radio communication apparatus to the start of transmission of a reply signal to the transmission signal from the other radio communication apparatus, and a third time, required for detecting that the other radio communication apparatus starts transmitting the reply signal and then starts receiving the reply signal.
