An irradiation switch 12 of an X-ray photographic system 2 is a two-step push switch in which a SW2 cannot be turned on before pushing a SW1. When the irradiation switch 12 is half-pushed (SW1 ON), an X-ray source control device 11 causes an X-ray source 10 to start warming up. After the warming up is completed, the warmed-up state is maintained as long as the half-pushing is not released. If the irradiation switch 12 is fully pushed (SW2 ON), the X-ray source 10 is caused to start irradiation for main photographing without performing the second warming up.
