To provide a railroad wheel shape correcting device for shaving and correcting the shape of, if any, the flat part of a flat tire on the tread of a wheel while a vehicle is running.
When the wheel 11 is in a certain rotary angle position (as sensed by a rotary angle sensor 32) and an acceleration (as sensed by an acceleration sensor 31) not smaller than a predetermined value is generated in synchronism, a control device for the railroad wheel shape correcting device determines that there is a flat tire at that position. The control device then actuates a cylinder 19 to press a correcting element 17 against the tread of the wheel 11 under high pressure. When the value sensed by the acceleration sensor 31 becomes smaller, the control device stops the operation of the cylinder 19 and returns to a normal actuation mode for the correcting element 17.
