The railway vehicle drive unit 12 is a drive unit for conducting the rotation drive of wheels of a railway vehicle. Specifically, the railway vehicle drive unit is provided with a retarder housing 13 held by an inner diameter surface of a wheel 11 and integrally rotating with the wheel 11, an input side rotating member 14 having eccentric parts 16a, 16b connected to a driving source, revolving members 17, 18, relatively rotatably held by the eccentric parts 16a, 16b, for revolving around a rotary shaft of the input side rotating member 14, a rotation restricting member 19 for restricting rotation while allowing the orbital motion of the revolving members 17, 18 and an outer circumference engaging member 20 fixed to the retarder housing 13 to be engaged with outer circumferences of the revolving members 17, 18 and rotating the retarder housing 13 for the input side rotating member 14 while reducing its speed.
