To provide a rainbow color developing working method, in which a diffraction grating developing a beautiful rainbow-colored reflected gloss can be surely formed on the surface of a matter to be worked and a working speed can be made quicker than possible in a rainbow color developing working method for obtaining the rainbow-colored reflected gloss by irradiating laser rays on the surface of the matter to be worked.
As the base material 2 of the matter to be worked 1, an aluminum plate is employed. On the surface of the aluminum base material 2, a nickel-phosphorus alloy plated layer 3 is formed by an electroless plating method. Next, this matter to be worked 1 is heat-treated in air at 150 to 600°C for 5 s to 1 hr. Then, the surface of the plated layer 3 is irradiated with pulse laser beam 10.
